FAQ

The questions
people actually ask.

Including the awkward ones. If something you need is missing, the answer is a short email away rather than a form.

Money

Contracts and settlement

A licensed bank or payment aggregator — never TapProof. We are a technology provider and deliberately hold no RBI authorisation of our own. The partner page explains why that split exists.
From your acquiring partner directly into your current account. No TapProof account sits anywhere in the flow, so there is nothing of yours for us to hold, delay, or net a fee from.
Per enrolled device and per month for the software, invoiced in arrears. Your transaction rate is set separately by your acquiring partner. Pricing explains why we will not print someone else’s rate on our website.
No deposit — we hold no float or reserve of yours. Terms are short and plain; we would rather you left than stayed because leaving was expensive.

Getting live

Onboarding

Days rather than months when your documents are in order. Delay is almost always an incomplete file, which is exactly what our packaging step exists to prevent.
Business registration, PAN, GST where you hold one, a current account in the business name, and KYC for the authorised signatory. Get started has the full list.
Possibly. Tell us which one — if they are among our acquiring partners you may be able to keep the relationship and simply add acceptance on the phones.
Not today. The rails, the certifications and the regulatory structure are India-specific, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.

In practice

Most questions turn out to be about the same two things

Who holds my contract, and where does my money go. Both answers are on this page, and neither is complicated.

Hardware

Phones and fleets

Any Android 10+ handset with NFC, Google Play services and no root. Devices has a checker, and we bench-test every model in your fleet before rollout.
No. The phones your people already carry are the terminals. That is the entire premise.
You revoke the device with one call. Under managed Google Play you can also force-update or remotely wipe the app across the fleet.
Card authorisation needs connectivity, as it does on any terminal. UPI Lite over NFC is the offline-capable rail and we are tracking NPCI’s certification programme for it.

Limits

What it will and will not do

On a card tap, not yet. ₹5,000 is the RBI no-PIN contactless ceiling, and above it the customer must enter a PIN — which is PIN-on-glass, our phase two. UPI carries higher amounts today.
Yes, by tapping it. Worth knowing: UPI carries RuPay credit only, so Visa and Mastercard credit cards can only reach you through a card rail — which is a large part of why one exists.
Never. The card payload is encrypted inside the certified kernel to a key your acquirer holds, crosses us as an opaque blob, and is never decrypted, parsed or logged. Trust lists every field and where it lives.
Not a payment aggregator, not an acquirer, not a payment system operator, and not a lender. We are software, and the honesty of that boundary is what lets us move quickly.

The real test

It has to work where the work happens

Not in a demo room. In a stairwell with one bar of signal, in a market at seven in the morning, at a door where somebody is already impatient.

Those are the conditions we designed for. It is also why we bench-test your actual handsets rather than publishing a compatibility list and hoping.
